Johnny Leggett Finishes Second at PBA Rogue River Open

GRANTS PASS, Ore. – Johnny Leggett placed second at the PBA Rogue River Open, held at Caveman Bowl in Grants Pass. The tournament marked the season kickoff for the PBA Northwest Region, drawing 44 bowlers from across the area.

 

Leggett opened the eight-game qualifying round with a 266 but followed with scores of 173 and 159. As overall scoring dipped across the field, Leggett remained consistent, rolling games of 214 and 224 before posting a 177 in game six. He closed qualifying with a 216 and 202, securing the No. 4 position heading into match play.

 

Twelve bowlers advanced to match play. Other bowlers from Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington included Gary Lenox, who finished 14th and missed the cut, Kyler Crevier in 21st, Chris Tuholski who qualified in 11th, and Kian Pryor who entered match play in 3rd place.

 

During match play, Pryor dropped to 11th with a 1-5-1 record, while Tuholski climbed to 6th with a 4-3 record. Leggett went 5-2 but fell to 7th heading into the Position Round.

 

In the Position Round, Leggett won his match, improving to a 6-2 match play record and moving into the 4th and final spot for the step ladder finals. Tuholski also won his match with a 188 but finished in 6th place, 29 pins short of the cut. Pryor closed out the tournament in 10th after winning his Position Round match.

 

In the step ladder finals, Leggett needed to win three matches to take the title. He began with a 189–159 victory over Nickolas Freiberg of Sparks, Nevada, then defeated Gannon Cyphers of Loleta, California, 193–172.

 

In the championship match, Leggett faced Harry Weigle of Anchorage, Alaska. Leggett was unable to string strikes together and fell to Weigle 210–178, finishing the tournament in second place.
