INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — EJ Tackett captured his second U.S. Open title at the 2025 U.S. Open presented by Go Bowling, held at Royal Pin Woodland in Indianapolis. Tackett claimed the green jacket and the $100,000 top prize after defeating top seed Andrew Anderson in the championship match, 238-184.
Tackett entered the tournament ranked 78th after two rounds of qualifying, nearly 200 pins outside the cut line. He climbed to the No. 2 seed after 48 games of qualifying and match play.
In the semifinal match, Tackett defeated Chris Via 245-152 by firing seven consecutive strikes, building an insurmountable lead. Via, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, had previously defeated François Lavoie 238-226 in Match 2. Lavoie advanced to face Via by defeating Anthony Simonsen 246-206 in the opening match.
During the title match, Tackett left back-to-back stone 9-pins to start but dominated Anderson afterward. Anderson, who led the tournament nearly wire-to-wire, made a few errant shots, which allowed Tackett to secure the win before the final frame.
With this victory, Tackett became the 13th player to win multiple U.S. Open titles and added to his list of achievements, including being a three-time and two-time reigning PBA Player of the Year. Tackett now has four major championship wins in his last 11 attempts.
